Crowninshield-Bently House[]
The Crowninshield-Bently house was bult for Capt. John Crowninshield, who died on 24 June 1766, about in between the years of 1727 and 1730. It is located at 126 Essex Street, Salem, Essex, Massachusetts. In 1959 Frederick Josiah Bradlee, Jr., my paternal grandfather moved it to it current location. According to my father, the house was going to be torn down for a parking lot but my grandfather found out about the news and descided to save the house. During the years of 1791 and 1819 the diarist and reverend William Bently lived in the house and recorded much of the actions of the Crowninshield family.
Castle Hill[]
The construction of the manstion was from 1926-1928 but the land was deeded to John Winthrop, Jr. in Jun 1637 and then to Hon. Samuel Symonds (1595-1678), Deputy Governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1644.
Derby House[]
The Derby House was built in 1762 by Capt. Richard Derby, the father of Elias Hasket "King" Derby (1739-1799).
Peter Tufts House[]
Constructon of this house was from 1677-1678 and was probably built by the immigrant Hon. Peter Tufts (1617-1700) who sold it to his son, Capt. Peter Tufts, Jr. It is located at 350 Riverside, Avenue, Medford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA.
Philip English House[]
The Philip English House was built in 1685 in Salem, Massachusetts. Philip English (1651-1736), born Philippe L'Anglois immigrated in 1670 to Salem from the Isle of Jersey at 19 years old. He became the wealthiest merchant in Salem and he and his wife narrowly escaped from being prosecuted of the Salem Witch Trials in 1692.
The Old Derby Mansion[]
Naumkeag Mansion[]
Naumkeag was built for Hon. Joseph Hodges Choate (1832-1917), who was the U.S. ambassador to Great Brittain appointed by President McKinley in 1899 and my third great uncle.
Gardiner's Manor[]
Garidner's Manor was originally built by Capt. Lion Gardiner (1599-1663), who purchassed the Island in 1639 from the Indians because of his support that he had for them during the Pequot War.
Sylvester Manor[]
Sylvester Manor was built in about 1757, however the Island that it sits on is Shelter Islan, wich is 8,000 acres and was purchased in 1651 by Nathaniel Sylvester (1610-1680) from the Manhanset Indian chief Yoki.
